Supraventricular Tachyarrhythmias

The most common supraventricular tachycardia is sinus tachycardia which is a normal repsonse to exercise and exertion.. Abnormal supraventricular tachyarrhythmias are defined as tachycardias that have their reentry circuit or triggering focus located above the ventricles. In general there are five types of supraventricular tachycardia:

  1. AV nodal reentrant tachycardia
  2. WPW syndrome and AV reciprocating tachycardia
  3. Atrial flutter and atrial tachycardia
  4. Atrial fibrillation

From the standpoint of "ease of cure" using radiofrequency catheter ablation, AV nodal reentrant tachycardia is easiest to cure while atrial fibrilaltion is most dicfiicult to eliminate.
